The New World of On Demand Services

I’d like to tell you a story. But this story doesn’t take place long, long ago and far, far away. It happened right where you’re sitting, just a few years ago.

Once upon a time, the Yellow Pages ruled above all as the oracle for business services. If you wanted a plumber to fix your leaky tap or chicken chow mein brought to your door, this was the Holy Grail. In the UK, for certain, you’d be hard pressed to find a household without a copy stashed away somewhere.

The Yellow Pages

Some time later, online directories and internet search engines stole the crown (enter and sashayed us into a new digital era. By then, ‘next day delivery’ was the cutting-edge of industry. User habits gradually changed as we adopted browser behaviours, delighting in watching our desires materialize as the result of clicking a few buttons. No sooner had computers replaced every home’s’ edition of the Yellow Pages, did the mobile phone become a staple in each person’s pocket.

A New Era of Apps for On Demand Services

Technology opens doors. If you thought that Smartphone applications were just about Angry Birds and Candy Crush, think again. Today, mobile apps offer a platform for businesses to offer their services to new customers – customers they may never have reached through traditional advertising methods. Most people carry their smartphones with them throughout the day, so your product or service is only ever a click away.

Not only do mobile applications give a new sales channel to existing businesses, but they have also paved the way for a multitude of new services to emerge; or at least, a new way to offer these services. Enter, the future of smart mobility: on demand apps. You name it, there’s an app for that. And chances are, they can deliver in less than 24 hours. Want some food delivered? Get it in 30 minutes. Need a handyman, ASAP? No problem. Looking for someone to clean your house? Just say the word. Suddenly, all these manual services, once fragmented, are available to anyone, anywhere. Whatever you want, you can find it there behind a little icon on your phone screen.

As consumers are given more options, they become more demanding; they want things faster, with better quality and in more abundance. Businesses had better get on board quickly, because seems undeniable that the future is on demand services.
